Virginia Winter Storm Warning: Up To 5 Inches Of Snow Expected In Wise And Russell Counties

A winter storm warning advisory has been issued for Wise and Russell counties, effective from 2 a.m. Wednesday until 7 a.m. Up to 5 inches of snow is expected on Thursday.

The storm is expected to cause dangerous road conditions in Morristown, TN, during the morning and evening commutes on Wednesday, as reported by the National Weather Service. Visibility is likely to be poor, with slippery roads and icy visibility making travel more challenging. Thursday morning will see temperatures drop into the teens, which may cause ice to form on untreated roads.

Authorities warn that any remaining water or slush could freeze overnight and make for dangerous conditions for those making the morning commute. Wednesday night will be cloudy with snow accumulation, and the low temperature will remain as cold as 22 degrees.

The weather on Thursday will be cloudy and cold, with a 40% chance of snow. The high will reach 26 degrees.

Weather

Northeast Tennessee will experience snowfall ranging from two to three inches, while parts of southwest Virginia will receive two or four inches. Some mountains in southwest VA may see up to 4 to 6 inches of snow.

Predictions

A storm system is expected to carry out snowfall to Southwest and Central Virginia on Wednesday afternoon.

The snow will start spreading and expanding in the direction towards the east during the morning. Although a windy mix of falls is anticipated, it will mostly be snow.

A snowfall will occur from west to east in the evening. Thursday morning will see the commencement of a snow band. By midday time on Thursday, snow activity will cease, but there is a probability of additional snow showers along the western slopes.
