On Thursday, Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott gave his statement in response to the news that the state’s second-largest police department was refusing to work with federal immigration enforcement agents; he said they should comply with them and work together
This response from the governor came after the Dallas Police Department officers reportedly asked immigrants at a church service on Wednesday night whether they understood the concerns of President Donald Trump’s Immigration policies.
Why Is It Important?
With Texas, being on the border has been among the focal points among the many border stifles of the past three years. The border patrol with state forces faces thousands of illegal border crossings via the Mexico border. Abbott was never in favour and has been vocal about Joe Biden’s policies and has supported Trump in that matter.
In Trump’s campaign, he emphasized illegal immigration and border security and was elected due one of those reasons. An AP-NORC poll, conducted from January 9 to January 13 among 1,147 adults, found that 83 percent of Americans back deporting migrants living in the U.S. illegally who have been convicted of a violent crime, while only 6 percent would oppose doing so.
We see how pressing this issue is and how it needs to be addressed on a priority basis, as it’s harming the country’s peacekeeping.
What Is Currently Happening?
Dallas Police, as of Wednesday, have been attending events such as church services that contain immigrant communities. After the threat of immigrants without legal status who might have committed crimes.
At one particular service at a church, interim Chief Michael Igo told those in attendance that his officers would not aid U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in its ramped-up operations. That included officers not detaining or reporting anyone who was undocumented who called 911 or was pulled over for traffic violations.
“I need you guys to continue to call the police, to not be afraid to come out of your homes to go to work, to send our kids to school,” he told the audience, to give them a sense of security. He confirmed that those who had legal warrants against them would be arrested
Texas is home to at least 5.1 million immigrants as of the last analysis in 2022 by the American Immigration Council, and that number includes 1.8 million without legal status. We need to be alert of our policies and rights and hope everyone goes to the rightful place they belong and we can live in a peaceful, harmony
