Clarksville Nonprofit Steps Up To Aid Families Displaced By Flooding

Due to heavy rain this weekend, flooding in Clarksville and Montgomery County has left some families without shelter.

Nyrie Soto, a six-month pregnant woman, and her family were forced to evacuate their Woodlawn home after the first floor was submerged in water approximately 7 inches deep. She claimed that she took her children to safety while her husband left the house with their dogs on its second floor.

“It was a terrifying experience to be with my four children, trying to stay strong and ensure that they were safe from harm.

She suggested that it would only need a small effort.

Soto was introduced to Yaipak, a nonprofit organization in Clarksville that assists flood victims from all over the Southeast. Shery Nicholson, the head of Yaipak corporation, forecasts that the company will eventually cater to around 60 to 80 customers.

In the next few days, Nicholson stated that Clarksville families will have access to everything they need during the colder weather. He added that everything will be deployed quickly.

Currently, Yai pak is providing temporary housing to flood victims with essentials such as clothes, food, and baby supplies to ensure their survival.

As per Montgomery County officials, a shelter has been developed at the Clarksville Seventh Day Adventist Church on Northfield Drive by the Red Cross. Meanwhile, the Montgomery Cooperative Highway Department has conducted road inspection over the weekend to manage traffic and help with the damage.

According to officials, the Red River and the Cumberland River are anticipated to rise more than any day, ensuring locals on Friday to avoid those areas and limit travel if possible.

How To Help

For those looking to assist in these efforts, YAIPak Outreach provides various ways to contribute:

  • Donations: Financial contributions are critical for purchasing necessary supplies and materials.
  • Volunteering: Individuals can volunteer their time at the warehouse or help with distribution efforts.
  • Item Donations: The organization accepts essential items such as clothing, non-perishable food, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene products.
